OK, before you get all hot and bothered… this has nothing to do with, well, what I led you to believe it did. 🤭
I’M WRITING A BOOK IN PUBLIC
Yes, I said in public, and you’re invited to watch! (There I go again…)
It’s going to happen on Medium and here on Substack. Let me explain.
Backstory #1.
Recently, the dynamo known as Kristina God got my attention — it felt like a cold, quick slap across the face— when she wrote about leveraging the synergy between Medium and Substack.
I’d been here on Substack before with my now sunsetted Tiny Zen and my still extant Doodling Around with Kona (a personal Substack just for fun), choosing to focus most of my writing on Medium, where I’ve met with more success in terms of exposure, followers, and revenue.
Despite working with Sarah Fay, one of Substack’s greatest assets and coaches, I wasn’t in a suitable space creatively to make Substack work for me with my previous focus.
Coming back to Kristina, I’ve been amazed at her hustle and insight into getting both of these fantastic platforms to work for writers. I’ve also joined Sarah’s Substack Growth Cohort, so I feel like I will make Substack a success this time.
Backstory #2
J.R. Heimbigner is known as The Minimalist Author on Medium and Substack. He published his first book in 2017 and has since published 12 more.
That’s amazing, any way you choose to look at it! 🤩
J.R. recently issued a challenge:
Since I’d been flirting with writing and publishing a series of 40-50-page eBooks on Amazon, J.R.’s challenge came at the right time for me.
I accepted J.R.’s Challenge.
So, You Get to Watch…If You’re That Kind of Guy/Girl…you know…a writer 😉… and Here’s How:
Because I’m using Substack to document my progress as a working writer, I’m going to make this section a paid section. To receive these posts, you’ll need to become a paid subscriber to ‘Let’s Get Paid…To Write’.
You can still read my new book chapter for free by following steps #1 or #2 below.
▶️ Read me on Medium - and choose to receive my stories via email - that will include the chapters in the new book.
Becoming a Medium member will cost you $5/mo. If that’s not an option, do #2 instead.
▶️ Start Reading My Free Email Newsletter - It takes less than 30-seconds to read and arrives M-F. I include Medium ‘Friend Links’ to my stories (non-members can read these)
▶️ Become a Paid Member on my Substack - at only $30/year, you’ll get the rest of the story
On Medium: The new chapter is in story format, then…
On Substack: The behind-the-scenes narrative of what went into this chapter and suggestions for you based on my experience.
What’s your reaction to this method?
I’m always looking for new ways to test revenue streams for writers like you and me and share the results so that you can learn from my successes and failures.
Have you tried something similar? I’m interested in your feedback. 😊
I’m Baz, a writer and retired doctor. I live in Vancouver, Washington, with my Labradoodle, Kona. I also write on Medium and have an M-F micro-newsletter for writers: GET PAID TO WRITE.
